Celebrate Christian Unity All Year
The Lutheran-Catholic Covenant Commission suggests the following ways to celebrate Christian unity throughout the year:
Celebrate Pentecost with a neighbor church;
Celebrate Thanksgiving with an ecumenical service;
Cooperate with a neighbor church in some social action;
Host a Bread of Life study group;
Include intercessory prayers for Christian unity in church services;
Initiate an ecumenical committee with a designated contact;
Join a neighbor church for Advent and Lent Scripture reflection and discussion;
Observe Good Friday with a neighbor church;
Offer a course on ecumenism;
Organize an ecumenical vacation Bible school; or
Plan a pulpit exchange as appropriate.

Covenant Celebration 2009
Seek Justice: Catholic and Lutheran Understanding of Social Justice was the focus of the Covenant Celebration on Sunday, September 20, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Warren, OH. Concerned about the impact of the econominc crisis in northeastern Ohio, Lutherans and Catholics listened to Jim Tobin, Associate Director of the Ohio Catholic Conference of Ohio, present the Catholic perspective on economic justice and Reverend Andrew Genszler, Director of Advocacy for the ELCA Washington D.C. Office, present the Lutheran perspective. Bishop Eaton presided at Evening Prayer assisted by Reverend Joe Witmer, Diocesan Ecumenical Officer. Read more in the Catholic Exponent.

Lutherans and Catholics Working Together
Father Noga, pastor of Youngstown St. Patrick Parish, and Rev. Heine, of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, lead inner-city churches on the city’s South Side. They preside over blended congregations. They live on or near church property, so they are acutely aware of social and economic problems in their neighborhoods, especially in terms of home foreclosures and abandoned properties. Lutheran-Catholic Covenant
On October 29, 2000, the Diocese of Youngstown and the Northeastern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
entered into an historic Covenant based on prayer, study and action.

Bishop Murry and Bishop Eaton
charge the Lutheran-Catholic Covenant Commission with the responsibility to implement the Covenant according to the Action Plan.
